The Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (SAAE) reported that in three years the population will drink drinking water from the Sorocaba river, after 21 years of the beginning of the process of decontamination.
According to the municipality, with 8.5% of the works carried out, the Water Treatment Station (ETA) under construction in the Vitória Régia neighborhood has already begun to take shape.
ETA Vitória Régia will make the capture and treatment of water from the Sorocaba River, making it suitable for consumption. And according to the SAAE, it will reduce the dependence of the city on the water brought by the water mains of the Serra de São Francisco.
The general director of SAAE, Ronald Pereira da Silva, explains that of all the project of the new ETA, 40% correspond to the constructive work and the other 60% will be in equipment installation. He explained in a note from SAAE, that at this time, almost half (40%) of the corresponding to the construction work are performed.
The entire structural part of the administrative building has been completed; 20% of the water tank is ready; and 40% of the hydraulic block was executed. The hydraulic block consists of the decanter, flocculator, filters and the ozonator. “Of the 800 tons of steel that will be used in the construction phase, 400 tons (50%) are already applied”, informs the director general.
After the civil work will be carried out the assembly of pipes, mechanical equipment and electrical installations. All the works are being carried out by the company GEL Engenharia. The works began in October of last year, with the earthwork of the 166 thousand square meters of area, on Avenida Antônio Saladino.
According to the SAAE, about three kilometers away, on the bank of the Sorocaba river, the earthworks are made at the point where the structure will be installed for the withdrawal (capture) of the water to be treated in the ETA. By means of bombs it will be transported by the buried pipeline and in safe area, to ETA Vitória Régia.
“In 2021, this station will provide 750 liters per second of treated water with excellent quality for the consumption of Sorocaba,” says the SAAE note. With the expansion already planned, it will reach 1,500 liters per second. This volume corresponds to 60% of all the water served today for the population, treated in ETA Cerrado and ETA Eden, the note adds. With an investment of almost R$ 78 million, ETA Vitória Régia is being equipped with state-of-the-art sanitation technology: ozone-based treatment, which guarantees the best final quality for drinking water, says SAAE.
For the municipality, the whole city will benefit from ETA Vitória Régia, since the distribution system that it will feed will be interconnected to the existing infrastructure, working in an integrated way and also distributing the resource to the regions of the city that are now supplied with water from the Clemente (Itupararanga) and Ipaneminha dams, treated by Cerrado ETA and Ferraz dam, treated at ETA Eden.
Says SAAE in the note that the exact amount invested in ETA Vitória Régia is R $ 77,956,527.01, with funds that include funding from the Federal Government’s Sanitation for All and CPAC program, a counterpart of SAAE-Sorocaba’s own resources and financing by Caixa Econômica Federal.
Mayor José Crespo (DEM) says that “in our administration, Saae-Sorocaba continues to comply with the master plan and expand the infrastructure to meet the demands of the next decades.” (With information from Secom Sorocaba)
